Diepsloot Development Clinic – Johannesburg

August 1st saw 22 Perth Glory FC players hosting a development clinic in Diepsloot, a township in the north of Johannesburg, at the Township TV recreational site.

60 eager youngsters from the junior and senior Diepsloot teams between the ages of 7 and 13 years old waited patiently on the Brazilian 5 a side soccer turf to see what the young Perth Glory stars were going to teach them. The area was cordoned off to allow the coaches and the teams get the most out of this exercise.

The budding young football players were split into three separate groups with each group hosted by 7 or 8 players. Each group was taught a different skill and once mastered, moved on to the next group. The skills included goal keeping, defence and attacking patterns as well as shooting at goals.

This clinic was conducted by the full Perth Glory FC management team and full squad members. The coaches were given the step by step approach of each exercise including warming up and warming down requirements focussing on specific techniques.

The clinic was closed with the handing out of the sponsored tee-shirts, Coca-Cola, Aqua Tiqua hydration products, crisps, fruit and sandwiches plus a number of the squad donated football boots to a number of bootless children.

By far the poorest and most needy of all the clinics held, had, without any prompting, the Perth Glory players and management taking off takkies, shoes, shirts, tracksuit tops and caps and giving this to the youth, coaches and onlookers who sat in the stands and took in the training exercise.
