Our 10.75 x 67 Minutes for Nelson Mandela Day

Our 10.75 x 67 Minutes

Mnnnnnn! 67 minutes for Nelson Mandela Day turned out to be 10.75 x 67 minutes!

The boys from Sport Unplugged had been on another recce for a Perth Glory Clinic. This time they found something that they believed would not only be an awesome Perth Glory clinic, but would be another way for both teams (Perth Glory and Sport Unplugged) to give back.

They had traveled to Delmas, about an hour away from Johannesburg (unless you are in traffic) and met up with Arbour Primary School Officials.

Arbour Primary School caters for around 280 kids from Grade R to Grade 7 and had recently received a donation of a 3 x 6mt wriggly tin (that’s what we call it in Ireland)/corrugated iron shed.

And so our story of 10.75 x 67 minutes begins……………

Some of us made excuses – I’m packing for Perth ………. Glory, I have admin, I have another event, I’m washing my hair, I have training – you know, the usual ones that we make every day.

It was left to our trusted leader George and the most unlikely of candidates, Abigale, to ready themselves for a back breaking task. Abigale is not known for her prowess at manual labour and we had told her she would be laying bricks tomorrow, don’t stress Abigale, it’s easy!

Don't worry Abigale, It's easy!

Don’t worry Abigale, It’s easy!

We realised that her painting prowess is probably better than George’s, but not by much given the amount of paint we had to remove from her body when she arrived back at the office!

Although the classroom makeover was for Grade R, Sport Unplugged donated boxes of text books and learning tools to Arbour Primary School and headmaster Molalathoko was delighted with the extra that Sport Unplugged delivered.

Our Grade R class now looks and feels like a real classroom. Thanks to all who were involved, more pics are up on our Facebook Page – https://www.facebook.com/SportUnplugged

We managed in our 10.75  x 67 minutes to transform this humble wriggly tin hut into something we can all be proud of. What did you do for your 67 minutes?

And George is leaving the building!

George had collected the Perth Glory kit from the airport earlier in the day and our jobs were not over yet, but that’s another post.

Sport Unplugged is proud to be associated with Perth Glory FC and our joint venture in giving back to the community.
